Gerry Picard, why do I know that name?

Hello,

I would like to tell you a few things about me. Many of you will know my name as I may have taught your friends or family how to drive. I have been a licenced Driving Instructor for over 11 years. I have worked for many of the local driving schools as an independent contractor including: Progressive Driving School, Superior Driving School and Amethyst Driving School. I have even worked for a driving school in the Toronto area. I have been praised by many students for my "unique" approach to driver training. We don't use a "cookie cutter" approach. At the beginning of every lesson, the student is assessed and we work on the problems areas /skills that need improvement.

Being a young in-class driving instructor at only 36 years old, I can relate to the student at their level. Something I can tell you is that I was the "young 16 year old punk driver" who got into trouble behind the wheel many times. I did not "respect" the vehicle and I never understood the consequences as a young driver. It took me many years, many life experiences to turn me into the "safe" and "respectful" driver that I am now. Now I bring these "real life" experiences to the driving school industry. I even take the students to a local wrecking yard to show them the aftermath of a collision. Having many years of experience as a tow truck operator and having over 1 million kilometers of professional driving, the student will benefit of hearing stories and situations that I had to experience.

A major part of progressing through the course is the practice at home. Parents are invited (strongly recommended) to sit in the back seat during the second in-car lesson. This will help parents / co-drivers to help the student get the practice they need to become a safe driver. 10 hours that is included in the course is NOT the magic number that turns a new driver into a safe one! New drivers should log in at home as many hours as they can in between lessons working on the skills they were taught. The main goal here is when they ask you (the parent) for the keys to the vehicle, you should not feel nervous handing over the keys.

At TheDrivingSchool.ca, the main focus is how to become an effective and competent driver. We never talk about "do this to pass the road test". My philosophy on the road test is if you learn and know how to drive, you will not have difficulty passing the road test. And this is why I have a 99% pass rate at the Drive Test Centre.

I can't wait to teach you!
